As part of UC Davis Health’s campus expansion, the Hospital Bed Replacement Tower project involved a critical design-assist scope to prepare for a new hospital tower. Preston Pipelines played a key role in the Make Ready phase, which included rerouting existing chilled water, hot water, and electrical infrastructure that served the active hospital, freeing up the site for new construction without disrupting operations.
Working in a highly congested underground environment, extensive investigation and precise coordination were required to determine routing and design shoring systems that would protect mission-critical utilities during excavation. The project also included phased installation of new pre-insulated, welded steel hydronic piping (HHW/CHW), supplied by Thermacor, to serve the future hospital tower. Installation was carefully sequenced to align with UC Davis Health’s construction timeline and maintain uninterrupted hospital access.
