The Stanford Central Energy Facility (CEF) Expansion project enhanced Stanford University’s campus-wide energy infrastructure through the expansion of its innovative Central Energy Facility in Stanford, CA. The facility houses heat recovery water tanks, a high-voltage substation, and advanced heat recovery systems that support Stanford’s long-term sustainability and energy efficiency goals.

Working alongside Whiting-Turner Contracting Company and Stanford University, Preston Pipelines delivered critical utility infrastructure improvements to increase campus cooling capacity and support future growth. The project centered on a new condenser water system extension connecting the Central Energy Facility to the broader campus utility network.

The work was carefully coordinated within an active university environment to maintain safe operations and minimize disruption to ongoing campus activities. Through close collaboration with project stakeholders, Preston helped support Stanford’s continued investment in reliable, sustainable utility infrastructure.

The completed expansion increased the capacity and resiliency of Stanford’s energy systems, providing essential infrastructure to support future campus development and long-term operational needs.
