The Elkhorn Boulevard Extension project in Sacramento, California, delivered a critical new transportation corridor designed to improve regional connectivity and provide a secondary access route to Sacramento International Airport (SMF). Recognized as the 2023 APWA Sacramento Chapter Project of the Year in the Transportation – Road category, the project supports long-term growth within the Metro Air Park development and surrounding industrial corridor.

Spanning approximately one mile, the new four-lane roadway included construction of curbs, gutters, sidewalks, ADA-compliant ramps, a traffic signal, and roadway signage to support both public access and heavy truck traffic. Preston Pipelines performed installation of key underground utility infrastructure, including storm drain, sanitary sewer, and domestic water systems necessary to support the roadway improvements and future development in the area.

The project required coordination across multiple disciplines and phased construction activities to maintain progress and support the overall schedule. Through efficient field execution and collaboration with project partners, Preston successfully delivered the underground utility systems supporting this award-winning public infrastructure improvement project.
